While browsing the internet there’s been tons of posts about what to wear this fall. Everything from the color red to bags with fur accents. There’s a lot of time spent saying “why” or “I would never wear this.” But then there’s also a 99% chance there will be a burgundy/wine colored sweater in my closet in the next 4 weeks. It happens. Since there are so many trends I choose just some of my favorites making them the ones that truly matter.
Fashion Month is pretty much the greatest procrastination tool ever created. There’s so many things to look at which ultimately take the greatest amount of time away from things I should be doing. In the street style snaps there was one really common look done a variety of ways but featured two main pieces: boyfriend blazers + jeans.
Oh my god, shut up. It’s still hot out. It’s only been September for 5 minutes. – Everyone reading this right now.
But just think of this post as an excuse to go shopping or something. Summer to fall is a weird time. It goes from being 100+ every day to being 70 overnight. It’s hard to make really good outfit choices because one second I’m a little chilly but by 4pm I’m sweating like crazy. There are tons of suggestions on what to do in order to transition a wardrobe between seasons. Keep wearing your favorite sundress but toss on a cardigan (duh). Wear sweaters with shorts. Change out your cute sandals for ankle boots although I actually saw Glamour magazine making a case for wearing your sandals. To each their own I suppose.
Ah, Labor Day. The unofficial end of summer is finally here. Too bad the Arizona heat won’t be out of here for at least another month. But it’s time to fully embrace the end of summer and fill the final days with fun activities. There are BBQs, beaches, lakes, boats, picnics, and so many other things to do. I have some really fun plans this weekend, but I’m lacking a little in the style department. I’m just not sure what to wear.
I feel like I’ve been so lazy lately and living in denim shorts, yoga pants, and tank tops. I’ve just been really uninspired, hating my clothes, or down on myself whatever the reason my outfits have been severely lacking. Going into this weekend I decided I should probably give off some better vibes so I looked around for some end-of-summer outfit inspiration.
I know in the past I’ve shared my trials and tribulations with shorts. After countless summers of wearing uncomfortable jeans and unflattering long “jorts” due to self-confidence issues, I finally came to a happy place where I can wear shorts of all kinds. Now I know what kind of shorts I wear the most: denim, pull on, or sworts. Denim shorts are wardrobe staples, pull on shorts are perfect for relaxing or running errands, and, well, sworts are the laziest shorts in the world. So rather than be so boring I decided to do a little research and see what shorts were the most trendy this summer.
As you can see above; Basically the answer was literally any pair of shorts ever. There was leather or leather effect (aka the warm weather sibling of leather pants), and crepe shorts (which are just really loose & flowy Bermuda shorts). Printed shorts ala the 1990s are big (especially florals), and the staples I’ve mentioned above. I felt pretty overwhelmed, but I decided to play around with it a bit. One thing I tried to be aware of is shorts are warm weather clothes so there’s no ankle boots or thin heels. I think that ankle boots are fine with shorts within reason, but it’s a personal preference. I do it depending on the occasion and outfit. Thin heels and shorts just feel so Pinterest to me so I avoid them at all costs (plus I’m clumsy). When wearing shorts I avoid high top sneakers because they cut off my legs at a certain point making me appear shorter. At the end of the day styling any shorts is a personal preference, but below hopefully you’ll find some new inspiration or try a new type of shorts.
I’m sorry for the surplus of summer themed posts lately. Although I’m not really sure what else I’d be writing about since it is, well, summer. I’ve shared my bucket list and now I thought I would share some other things on my radar. Products mostly to enhance the summer experience so think of it almost like a curated shop by yours truly.
- I love how this tee has the appearance of iron on letters making it feel slightly vintage. Madewell | $23
- A linen blouse paired with denim shorts and a cute sandal looks chic and relaxed with minimal effort. H&M | $30
- Slip on loafers are still all the rage, and these are on sale (currently) and budget friendly. Topshop | $24
- This top pulls double duty: adds a touch of bright color to an outfit and shows off the shoulders. Zara | $10
I genuinely don’t know how it’s already July. The year is more than half over? Where did the time go? I hope the next few months are far better than the last few, but rather than being such a Debbie Downer enjoy some really cool things currently on my radar.
