Styled: Boyfriend Jeans

A good pair of boyfriend jeans are a wardrobe essential. A girl can never have too many different pairs of jeans. Boyfriend jeans go in and out of style, but right make an outfit look relaxed without trying very hard. They are often baggy with a low waist which is a very 90s type of silhouette for girls. Boyfriends jeans can offset dainty pieces like lace or crop tops to add a little something extra to an outfit.

It girls and fashion girls love boyfriends jeans so there’s plenty of places to look for inspiration. One of my favorite ways to wear distressed boyfriend jeans is with a baggy sweater and loafers. It looks effortlessly chic but not too relaxed where it becomes frumpy. There are tons of different washes, styles, and brands to check out so it’s easy to find the right pair.

If you haven’t considered them before or thought they were out of style here is some inspiration to guide you.

What I’m Wearing

A way back somehow (I’m not very sure how) I began receiving the Goop email newsletter. A long with links to interesting stories on their website the offer tips and tricks, how-to’s and product recommendations on fashion and style. At the very end of the newsletter there’s a section of clothing and accessories they currently love. I think it’s pretty cool because what they choose often puts together a really chic outfit with clickable links to buy.

So I’m super casually borrowing it for my blog. I can’t confirm the people at Goop actually use, wear, or love those stylish pieces, but because this is my blog I can confirm I do. I thought this might be a little different than an #OOTD because I want to share the outfits I’m obsessed with or just think are pretty great.

This outfit I wore to Easter dinner at my parents this past weekend. The birdcage skirt is brand new in the spring releases of Who What Wear’s collection with Target. My only gripe is the white is very…thin when it comes to the sun. No matter what color underclothes I tried to wear there was a shadow or they were visible. I would much rather have this skirt in black (it’s available online). Other than a pretty spring skirt the rest of what I chose were just classics in my closet.

Spring Beauty Must-Haves

Warmer temperatures means a change in my beauty must-haves. Really anything that keeps me from melting is entirely welcome. A must have in my book is anything that enables survival but keeps me feeling confident.

  • Blush (NARS ‘Sex Appeal’) – This soft peach blush is a change from the rosy pink I usually use because it is much softer and subdued.
  • Sea Salt Spray (Bumble and Bumble) – This is my go-to sea salt spray, but I use it minimally during the warmer months. It can be incredibly drying and lead to a frizzy look when used too much. But when used every once in a while it gives a really great beach fresh texture.
  • Sunscreen (Aveeno) – duh.
  • Bronzer (Hourglass Ambient Bronzer) – The perfect sun-kissed look with a radiant finish and minimal effort. Just for those days where I need a little dimension without baking in the sun (never advised).
  • Nail Color (Essie ‘Excuse Me, Sur’) – This is my favorite nail color from Essie’s spring collection inspired by a California road trip. It’s a peachy pink that fits really well with my tan.
  • Waterproof Mascara (Better Than Sex) – Because no one likes having mascara run down their face when sweating or crying. Full disclosure it takes quite a bit of remover to get off depending on how many coats are applied.
  • Hair Mask (Neutrogena Recovery Mask) – I use this once a week to restore the health of my hair. Within the span of a shower it can minimize the product and heat damage and leave my hair looking healthy (and soft).
  • Self Tanner (Nivea Sun Kissed Radiance lotion) – I am very wary of self tanner and I prefer to use Nivea’s gradual lotion. It adds a nice even color over time and Nivea makes the best lotions for my skin so double whammy.

What to Wear: Spring Style Inspo

I’ve been trying to change up my style for spring. Stepping outside my comfort zone of jeans and a simple tee has been hard. I wore dresses twice now and even shorts (yes, outside my apartment!). But I still feel like I’m lacking in the style department.

Rather than just wearing everything in the spring J. Crew catalog, I found about a weeks worth of spring style inspiration worth copying.

Spring Shopping List

There are three factors that contribute to me wanting to go shopping. Either I haven’t bought clothes in a while (“a while” being relative), Zara is having a sale, or I have just cleaned out my closet of clothes I no longer wear. Fortunately for me, all three of these things are currently true so I’ve created a bit of a shopping list. This shopping list is a combination of spring trends and just a few other things I wish my closet currently had.

I bet you can gather which are the trends (this monochrome girl isn’t jumping at the bit to rock some yellow now is she?) and what are pieces I have my eye on. Huge spring trends include yellow, banker stripes, flat mules, and tulle. Every girl needs a good pair of mirrored sunnies and I’ll buy nearly anything with stripes (hi, blog name). I don’t necessarily need a new bralette, but Madewell has a lingerie collection I am absolutely obsessed with.

Spring Cleaning or Time to Reset?

Spring cleaning might be one of my favorite times of the year. That sounds really dumb and painful, right? I clean a lot because I am really obsessive compulsive about clean spaces, but even I look forward to the deep clean. I mean, how else am I going to discover the half eaten bag of Reese’s pumpkins from Halloween hiding out in my pantry? But this post is about a different spring cleaning…more like hitting the reset button.

I took to this blog in January to write some wellness resolutions for the year (read that here), and while that isn’t actually that long ago, spring is a time of renewal. Whether you lost your resolution weeks ago or you just feel run down, there’s always time to hit the reset button and try something new. While we are busy cleaning and decluttering our spaces, we can make simple changes to improve our life overall. Even if spring cleaning totally isn’t your thing (and I can see why), there are other things you can try to recenter yourself and improve your life.

Refresh Your Space – This is real spring cleaning.  It’s time to look into the places and spaces you avoid during your regular cleaning cycle. Remember how bad underneath the bathroom sink looks? When is the last time you actually cleaned behind your toilet? These are the things no one really likes doing, but they must be done. Grab some harsh chemical free cleaners and tackle it. Just choose the things that matter to you. No need to completely turn your space upside down and cover it entirely in bleach.

Clean Out Your Closet – Since it’s time to put away the cold weather items in favor for warm weather options, it’s an ideal time to let things go. Improve someone else’s life by donating them to charities that serve a purpose. Give your business casual clothes to a charity that helps women with job interviews. Spread out the rest or donate to Goodwill. Either way you’ll be giving others the chance to strive and feel their best.

Declutter Your Inbox – Look at your phone right now. How many thousands of unread emails do you have? Get rid of them. You’re clearly not reading them so why are you saving them for a rainy day? Most of them are marketing emails anyway right? Use unroll.me to unsubscribe from the ones you never open or have no intention of opening.

Set Intentions – Take some time out of your day to set some mindful intentions for the months ahead. Intentions are the seeds for goals and visions that come to fruition on their own over time. Don’t set intentions for things you don’t believe in, and they should be positive. They are a roadmap for where you want to go in life after all.

Log Off Social Media – Today’s media landscape is just tons of noise. It’s constantly being thrown at us. Every time I look at my phone there’s another news alert of something terrible or ridiculous happening in the world. Log out and give your mind a break. The news and all your friends vacation photos will still be there when you get back.
