I may have a love/hate relationship with summer, but one thing I do consistently is make 10,000 mixes during the season. I’ll find any reason to make one. I’m not sure if I’ll share them all here, but I might share a couple at least.
This one has a very intentional chilled out vibe to it. The other day I surprised myself when during a conversation I admitted I love just doing nothing during the summer. What I mean is give me a pool, a nice adult beverage, and I don’t mind sitting still doing literally nothing. This might be the only time I truly am not doing something. So I made this playlist with that idea in mind. What songs could I turn on while relaxing by the pool and not get utterly annoyed by or want to change. The general idea was to be able to be floating in the middle of the pool without being able to touch any electronic device whatsoever. Just be in the moment and thoroughly relaxed.
Fact: the last time I genuinely chose to wear normal shorts was in 8th grade. Yes, 10+ years ago and really because I was obsessed with my Abercrombie & Fitch collection of possibly too short shorts. Eventually as an angsty teen I decided to wear the most unflattering longer shorts and I truly wish I could forget this time of my life.
Cut to now where I have rekindled my love of denim shorts. This is quite possibly due to one of two things. Either my self confidence has grown (along with my ability to give no f*cks about imperfect thighs) OR I’m just tired of overheating during the summertime while wearing jeans. Doesn’t really matter either way because now denim shorts are my go-to whether I’m running errands or just hanging around all day. Embracing shorts has made my life 35,000 times easier and I regret having ever given them up. No offense, teen angst stage. You were pretty pointless style wise.
Of course it’s really easy to have denim shorts go south fast. If they are too short or distressed it’s simple to head into “no one wants to see that” territory. I have 2 formulas for rocking denim shorts right now, and both are equally simple but stylish. A tank top when it’s warm out and a sweater when I’ve had a bit too much sun or will be hanging out in the air conditioning.
